DD Kisan is an Indian agriculture 24-hour television channel, which is owned by Doordarshan and was launched on 26 May 2015. The channel has been dedicated to agriculture and related sectors, which disseminates real-time inputs to farmers on new farming techniques, water conservation and organic farming among other information.
Earlier in 2004, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced various schemes for farmers on Jan 15, 2004. To cater Votes of rural India, Govt announced Kisan Call Center and a separate TV Slot for Farmers, Named as ' Kisan Channel 'which was basically Agri-news Channel for the rural farmers. The channel was officialy launched by PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee on 21 Jan 2004. It was a cable agri-channel, which aimed to carry agriculture related information on its one-hour broadcast on the available transponder with the IGNOU & Doordarshan, which was repeated four times a day during the that year. On 15 Aug-2006, Doordarshan launched DD Urdu Channel by replacing Kisan Channel.
After 8 Years, When BJP again came into power, PM Narendra Modi launched a dedicated channel to Agriculture 'DD Kisan' on 26 May 2015, which is aimed to provide News, Current Affairs, Science, Technology, Entertainment programs to Farmers, and Rural India.
