I had Acrobat Reader 7.0 and was trying to load 9.3 it got about 90% through and then errored with: Error 1402. Could not open Key. Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 23:40:28, on Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.5730.0011).
Hi,Once again I noticed how small little bugs can make one miserable dealing with these programs. There is the error which comes up while installation of Adobe Acrobat:
'Error 1402: Could not open key [key name] .'
'Error 1406: Could not write value Folders to key [key name] .'
Error Code 1402
A very simple solution which worked effectively for me is as follows:1. Download the Fix_1406ACL.exe which is in a zip format from http://kb.adobe.com/support/acrobat/ts/documents/329137/Fix_1406ACL.zip (imp: please close any install or uninstall window which may be already running)
2. Extract the Fix_1406ACL.exe and run it. (this program runs without any message or window)
3. Install or uninstall the Acrobat Reader now, it will most likely work without any error at all.
